String of Pearls (Senecio Rowleyanus)
Senecio rowleyanus, known as String of Pearls, grows as creeping vines with stems that root upon touching the ground. They typically grow in the shade, protected by taller plants. Named for their appearance, these plants have spherical, green leaves resembling pearls, with a lengthwise pellucid stripe. As perennial succulents, they have trailing stems up to 91.5 cm long. The leaves store water, allowing drought tolerance, and have small slits that let light in for photosynthesis. Their flowers are small, white, and brush-like on long peduncles. Suitable for both indoor and outdoor gardens, they thrive in the UAE’s summer season.
